Purchased an RS PRO-197

Recently Radio Shack came out with the PRO-197/PRO-106 (mobile / handheld equivalents to the GRE PSR-600/500).    Shortly after, they had a sale (3 or 4 days in Mid December 2008) – these normally $500 digital scanners were selling for $279 (with a 20 dollar coupon) + tax.    Insane pricing.   Everybody and their mother (including myself) [...]

PSR-500 CPU Firmware 1.6 Released

It’s been a while since I posted.   GRE continues to go above and beyond what any of us users have come to expect.  Not enough good things can be said about GRE Support.

CPU Firmware 1.6 has been released for the PSR-500/600.    DSP Firmware 1.3 is still the latest DSP code.  In reading what was fixed/added [...]

PSR-500 Serious trunking fanatics beware!

When I first bought the PSR-500, I did not know what restrictions were imposed as far as number of total talk groups allowed or number of trunking systems allowed. Tonight I ran into a hurdle that cannot be easily overcome – there is NO solution for this problem that is acceptable to me. [...]

PSR-500 – Five-day Review

After having the scanner for five days now, I find myself very satisfied with all but one aspect.

Front End Overload

The front end overload is rough to get over. I have a local television (WTOV 9) 5 miles or so to the south of me on 191 MHZ – I’m at ~1200 ft [...]

PSR-500 – Thoughts after 12 hours

NOTE: I compare this to a similarly-featured scanner, a Uniden BCD396T / 996T. I’ve never used a PRO-96/2096 to compare it with one of those. But this scanner deserves to be compared with other similarly-featured scanners, not other GRE scanners.

Review updated after 12 hours of use….

(???) PC/IF Data [...]
