Had a great time. Would have been a greater time had the UOVARC people thought to get together for the event. Would also have been nice if any other local club participated. I’m not aware that any did. So I operated 1D from home. Operated 80m (28 CW QSOs), 40m (19 CW, 1 Phone QSOs), 20m [...] Field Day is just about upon us – and yet I’m suddenly having no desire to operate. I sit in front of a computer (work as a network admin) for umpteen hours a day. Just feeling a bit burnt out on the computer. Radio gear sits right by it. I hope I get motivated by [...] I’ve already mentioned in the past what difficulties I have with constructing antennas in my 60′ x 100′ (60×50 usable) lot space, especially with power lines on two sides. Currently I’m using a strangely oriented dipole with the center in a V config at 18′, ends sloping to fenceline – V is 45 degrees. Fed with [...] I was only on for an hour at the beginning and a half hour at about 1045z. I heard almost NOBODY. I heard two people during that time calling WV or responding to WV, but I heard no WV. I listened on 80/40/20 CW. I don’t bother checking SSB. Finally I heard three on 80m [...] I’ve noticed more and more that people aren’t QSLing by postal mail as much anymore. And for many that receive QSLs in the mail, they are less willing to reciprocate unless you send them an SASE (and in some cases additional cash). Totally unacceptable. Yep, the hobby is supposed to be fun, and nobody should [...] The WVQP is this weekend. I’ve never operated in this contest, and I’ve got two things against me: (1) I’m right next door, which will likely limit the bands to 40/80, and (2) there doesn’t seem to be much activity in this contest. So how about it ? If you’re an amateur radio op with nothing to [...] Yes, I did make a few contacts, but I wasn’t really participating. I don’t have antennas for VHF/UHF except for the Ringo ARX2B 2m antenna. On 2m I used an ARX2B,�and on 6m I used a horizontal 80m dipole. And on 432 mhz I just threw caution to the wind and keyed up the SOB. [...] After each contest I participate in, I am further convinced of the mediocrity of my antenna system. I am just not sure what to do at this point. I need to get everything away from the power lines, but that just isn’t possible in my 60×100 lot with neighbors close by on both sides and [...] I was working the Alabama QSO Party and tuned up above 7040. Ended up hearing K4UY CQ. I just assumed he was working the QSO Party. I threw out my call, and he answered and engaged me in a QSO. Turns out he wasn’t working the ALQP and we ended up having a little CW [...] Started the contest at 1600z. Had made 54+ contacts by 1930z. Something happened in N1MM Logger that threw an error. I believe it was some keystroke I hit instead of CTRL-T. It threw the error and then crashed the program. When I brought it back up I was screwed – had lost at least 24 [...] |
